When muscles are overworked than their original capacity it causes microscopic damage to the muscle fibers which results in muscle soreness or stiffness.

There can be several reasons why you are experiencing muscle soreness and aches even for those who live a sedentary lifestyle.

Here at Blue Tree Clinics, our top physiotherapists are professionals and are capable of treating and evaluating muscle pains on a daily basis.

In this blog post, we will be listing three possible reasons why people experience muscle soreness:

1- Physical Activities Or Strenuous Exercises:

Starting afresh or returning to your usual workout routine can be difficult as your muscles are not yet adapted to the increased demands that such activities require. To an extent, it is normal to experience muscle soreness, particularly when introducing something new to your body. Minor aches and pains in the muscle groups you are exercising, are likely an indication that your muscles are adapting to your fitness regimen and are on their way to becoming stronger.

This condition is often referred to as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). A muscle pain that begins within 8 hours post-exercise and prolongs for 48 hours post-exercise. Mild muscle soreness is a natural outcome of almost any kind of physical activity.

Too much soreness post-exercise can hamper your movement and can be counterproductive to the goal of improving your core strength and fitness.

2- Stress:

Several studies have proven that people who lead more stressful and demanding lives are more likely to suffer from aches and pains than those who do not. In stressful situations, your body produces stress hormones that may increase muscle tension and pain sensitivity. And as a result, you may experience random migration of pain in various muscle groups throughout your body. At first, it might be difficult to identify how it all started, but lack of sleep or excessive emotions, and poor breathing functions can contribute to muscle stiffness.

Physiotherapists are often involved in the management of pain and it’s the relationship with stress. Identifying the cause of stress and creating positive change is key to feeling better. Good stress management will reduce muscle pain and good pain management will reduce stress.

3- Minerals and Vitamins Deficiencies :

Research has shown that muscle soreness is often a symptom of not having enough of certain types of vitamins in our body. As part of the annual medical examination, it is now a common practice for physicians to test Vitamin D levels, and often we are advised to take vitamin D supplements to keep our lives at a healthy level.

Vitamin D is highly essential to maintain good bone health. Insufficient vitamin D negatively affects our body’s ability to absorb the mineral calcium from our diet. In situations like this, the body draws its calcium from the bones (which eventually leads to weaker bones). The medical term for the beginning of weaker bones is osteopenia, and this condition progresses to osteoporosis. Although osteoporosis is thought to cause pain only in the presence of a fracture, it is possible that when both health is poor, the muscles that attach to the bones are not as well supported, and can become weak and sore.
