Allergies

Skin conditions are commonplace with most people experiencing some form of allergic reaction at one stage or another. Often, allergic reactions are a result of exposure to certain plants, medication or food items. These reactions often result in a condition known as Contact Dermatitis.

If left unchecked, skin allergies can often cause embarrassment as well as impact your quality of life. Fortunately, here at Blue Tree Clinics, we understand the causes and are able to provide the best possible dermatology treatments for skin allergies in Dubai.

Causes

Contact Dermatitis

There are two types of Contact Dermatitis with the second type referred to as Photoallergic Contact Dermatitis. The latter involves reactions that occur only through direct exposure to sunlight. With regular Contact Dermatitis, causes include exposure to irritants, allergens such as household and personal hygiene products, certain metals and even water.

Symptoms of Contact Dermatitis often include blisters and a rash accompanied by a burning or itching sensation.

Treatments

If you are reacting to something and are unsure as to what’s causing it; book an appointment with our team right away. As part of your consultation, one of our dermatologists will examine your skin closely while enquiring as to current or previous health issues. You will also be asked carefully pointed questions concerning where you live and work, any pets you have, products you use, etc.

Should we suspect that you’re suffering from an allergy, we will suggest patch testing to help identify the culprit. This involves applying patches with a small amount of potential allergens to your skin which you must wear for up to two days. If avoiding the allergen is not possible, we will suggest alternatives e.g. gloves without latex or creams to shield against certain plants.

If your skin has reacted, our team can provide you with medications such as:

  • Antihistamines
  • Moisturisers
  • Corticosteroids
  • Prednisone (severe reactions)
  • Antibiotics (if an infection is present)

For patients whose immune system has been unsettled as a result of an allergic reaction, Blue Tree Clinics also provides a treatment known as Phototherapy. Phototherapy involves exposing the skin to Ultraviolet Light B (UVB) which helps to slow the growth of skin cells affected by allergens.
